Di colore nocciola, ha un sapore persistente ed un aroma caratteristico. Ha una cristallizzazione in massa compatta. Come la pianta da cui deriva, trova applicazione soprattutto nelle affezioni della cavità orale e nasale, dei bronchi, dello stomaco e dell'intestino.
Poiché i suoi olii essenziali agiscono in profondità, è ottimo nella cura di infezioni interne (reni, condotti urinari, vescica, ovaie, prostata, pancreas).
Ideale con formaggi stagionati e saporiti come il grana e il parmigiano oppure con formaggi magri. Perfetto anche per accompagnare i primi e i secondi piatti di pesce e verdure miste condite semplicemente con olio, limone e miele di eucalipto.
